Introduction

The London Community Sports Network (LCSN) was established in May 2000 as a regional project.

Aims

Our overall aim is to improve the lives of marginalized and deprived communities in London through the development of community based sports and physical activity projects that engage, build and sustain local community action.

Voluntary & Community Sector

LCSN is a rapidly developing network of voluntary and community groups that use sport as a tool for engaging communities or have an interest in promoting community based sports development in London.

Over the last five years, LCSN has developed a solid reputation for specialist knowledge in community sports development and we have a growing track record of one-to-one support with over 100 community-based deliverers across the region. LCSN’s membership includes self-help groups, youth-led organisations, tenants associations, black, minority ethnic and refugee and asylum seekers groups and new start-up groups from all over London. We provide support and organisational development to community groups and the voluntary sector in action planning for sports projects, project management, monitoring and evaluating, fundraising and partnership working.

Portfolio

LCSN has also built a considerable portfolio of working with policy-makers, strategic agencies and funders to develop and influence national strategy and to carry out feasibility and research work in the community and voluntary sector. For example, in light of our experience of supporting skills development with staff and management committees, we have worked in partnership with the Home Office’s Positive Futures programme and SkillsActive on a workforce development programme. LCSN was instrumental to the development of the Certificate in Community Sports Work and Certificate in Managing Community Sport, both of which courses LCSN deliver in London.
