Ware FC

Football | Seville | 2 week placement

A team from Ware FC travelled in October from Hertfordshire to Seville, for a 2 week football placement. The students wanted to develop their technical skills, and learn the different styles and philosophies of Spanish football, whilst indulging in the rich culture of Andalusia. From arrival to departure, the participants made a real effort to make the most of their experience.

Training began from the very first day with a team coach at the local facility, which meant boots on and straight to the pitch, as on most days! This allowed the group to develop different play styles efficiently which are not commonly used within the UK. Their development was implemented through Spanish coaching, which helped them to understand greater the philosophies behind it. The benefit of this experience will certainly help them in their courses and future careers back home. The drills were exercised into realistic scenarios, when the participants played two friendly fixtures against local teams on the match day. They were able to prove just how quickly they had adapted to the well known "possession" style of the Spanish.

A tour of a stadium gave the footballers an exclusive look behind the scenes at the heritage, accomplishments, rivalries and professional environment of the local team.

Away from football, the participants did not shy from diving head first into some of the many activities that Seville has to offer. City walks, historical tours, experiencing local culture, flamenco dancing, paddle tennis and evening drinks being just a few examples. Their confidence and communication skills greatly increased as they found themselves eager to join in whatever activity that they could.

The boys had different expectations before starting their placement abroad, but 2 weeks of training and various cultural activities definitely left them wanting more!
